Milly’s Which Craft Art Studio at the Garden State Discovery Museum

The Garden State Discovery Museum is one of my family’s favorite places, so there’s no way I could say no to a personal invite to tour the new art studio🎨 The event was also hosted by A.C. Moore, another store I frequent so you could imagine how happy I was to be there.

Milly’s Which Craft Art Studio reminds me of a miniature A.C. Moore craft store with an art studio built in. Not to mention the entrance is so inviting with old-west-style saloon doors.

During the event, we met with Discovery Museum staff as well as A.C. Moore representatives. We learned about all of the exciting upcoming ventures both companies have planned. A.C. Moore will also soon be participating in The Crayon Initiative, an excellent program in which unwanted crayons are recycled into new ones and given back to schools, pediatric hospitals, art programs, and other programs vested in our children.

We even got the chance to create the most adorable make-and-take craft under the guidance of A.C. Moore’s very own Craftologist! How cool is that? The paper-bag owl was a hit with my kids. I can’t wait to make more with them at home.

Milly’s Which Craft Art Studio is a welcoming, cozy, artful environment where children of all ages can learn about and create art, exploring all mediums from painting to mosaics. The shelves are stocked with A.C. Moore products and supplies, and kids and parents can help themselves.

imageThere’s even a glow-in-the-dark sand-art station where kids can really get creative, drawing pictures and words in the sand with the beautiful glow of colors underneath.

Every day from 11-4, there is an organized craft-of-the-day. Today’s craft was “fall trees.” What better way to welcome the first day of October🍂🍁 The room was filled with kids painting their trees with fall colors. There was an abundance of brown, orange and red paints on the tables.

The studio doesn’t just offer daily opportunities for kids to get their creativity flowing. They also offer birthday party options and class field trip activities as well.

It’s obvious that the staff of the museum and A.C. Moore have really poured their heart and soul into this studio:

“Milly’s Which Craft Art Studio Crafted By A.C. Moore celebrates Milly and Herb Iris and their artful life together. Their passion for the arts and belief in Art as a powerful force in transforming lives is reflected in every facet of this new, exciting hands-on exhibit,” said Garden State Discovery Museum founder, Roree Iris-Williams. “An engaging creative venue for families, school groups, and communities to enjoy crafting and art-making together, the art studio is a fitting tribute to my Mom, Milly Iris, who will continue to inspire the next generation of young artists and Art-repreneurs!”

“Giving back is at the core of everything we do at A.C. Moore and we are elated to partner with one of Cherry Hill’s most beloved neighborhood staples to inspire visitors from both near and far,” said A.C. Moore CEO, Pepe Piperno, “The hope is that this exhibit will bring yet another opportunity to create and share more creativity in our home community.”

One of my favorite things about the studio is that famous artists are displayed along with their popular artwork. It’s interesting and educational for kids to be able to associate famous artists to their paintings.

Speaking of education, A.C. Moore is amazing in that they offer discounts to teachers and homeschoolers. With appropriate identification you’ll receive 15% off each time you shop there.

We’ll definitely be stopping in the studio every time we visit the museum! If you’ve never been to the museum, it’s time to check it out. Pull up a chair with your child, grab some paints and get creative🎨 The studio is a perfect addition to the already-amazing hands-on museum.

There will also be some more exciting Garden State Discovery Museum news and announcements in the near future too, so stay tuned❤️
